Sron Nan Colan & Meall Odhar - Scotland day 2

We arrived our cottage -Inverardren House (linked to a B and B) late the night before. Everywhere was covered in snow and the owner kindly gave us a push up the drive. The cottage was really warm thankfully and perfect for our needs. We were staying in it 3 nights, then two in the B and B linked to the same cottage as the cottage was not free the full week.

With the avalanche forecast not great and the windchill forecast ridiculous we decided to stay low. There was an interesting walk we had read about starting from Tyndrum where the path goes via some old lead mines. There was also a geocache to be bagged there. Emma enjoyed the start of this walk as she found lots of galena in the rock and other minerals. Our pockets were soon full of rocks...

Geocache bagging

The upper zig zaggy path through the mines was steep and Emma struggled a bit, it was also tricky to locate the path in the snow.

This photo was taken after the steep bit so doesn't really do the steepness mentioned justice!

We were glad to reach the top of Sron Nan Colan - we didn't stop for long though as it was freezing! In a show shower we headed down to find a lunch spot.

We used the mountain shelter to keep out the wind and sheltered behind a drift. It was grim and snowing when we went in to have our lunch, but when we came back out the sun had come out and it was a lovely day again.

I didn't fancy the route straight up a rocky rib of the next hill Meall Odhar so we crossed boggy ground to head up the rocky side. Luckily the bogs were all frozen over! Just in time for the top another snow shower blew in and the wind really picked up.

We took a quick snap and headed straight down.

As we reached the forestry to take us back to Crianlarich the sun came out again as it continued to spot with snow. We followed deep snow through firebreaks back to the village  We briefly saw one deer on our way back down, but were hoping we'd see more given the volume of the tracks in the forest.

Narnia!

We rewarded ourselves with hot chocolate in the Tydrum Cafe the Green Welly - bliss after a chilly day on the hill. We also drove to the Falls of Falloch on the way home, we didn't stop for long as it had started to snow but I'd imagine it would be a good spot for a swim come the summer if the midges aren't too much of a problem!
