Oban - Scotland day 6

It was our last day staying in Crianlarich so we packed up (crammed full) the car, said goodbye to our kind hosts & off we drove on the pretty drive to Oban.

We wanted to do a boat trip and had seen there was a cheap hourly trip you could do to see the seals. We bought tickets and had 45 mins or so to kill so we got sandwiches then went to the fishmonger on the railway pier to buy some mussels for our tea. They were about half the price compared to here and they even gave us a frozen bottle of water to keep them cool during our day out.

The boat trip was good- the water was nice and calm and we were treated to views of the mountains including Ben Nevis. We also had good views to the nearby island of Kerrera - somewhere I'd like to go back and do a day trip to & Mull. We saw seals on the rocks which Emma loved & made the trip well worth it.

Looking to Mull

We were freezing after the boat trip despite our layers so headed off to find a cup of hot chocolate. This proved difficult in Oban as everywhere was rammed full of people having lunches etc. We eventually found somewhere which took an age to take our order and serve us an overpriced hot chocolate.

We decided to drive over to the castle ruins as we were short on time we had a stroll round them and saw that Kerrera had a fire on it - the highlands had been suffering from allot of fires due to the extremely dry weather they'd been having..

From the ruins we walked to two beaches. Emma was pretty tired and we were running out of time so Mike headed back to pick up the car and meet us at our second beach.

It was then off to Tesco for a food shop and onwards to our cottage in Kentallen. To say we were shattered was a bit of an understatement but the cottage was fantastic & we soon felt better after big steaming bowls of mussels which were some of the best I'd ever had.

  1. Oh my.. With just looking at the pictures.. I'm really amazed by the beauty of Oban. I also heard that they have oban wildlife trips as tourist attraction. Must be a really diverse place to explore.
